Matt Kennedy has a career coaching record of 22-17-3

Kennedy Returns to Neumann as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach

July 12, 2006

Aston, PA. -Director of Athletics Chuck Sack announced that former Knights' Head Coach and College alumnus Matt Kennedy `01 will return to Aston, Pennsylvania after accepting the position of Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women's Ice Hockey coach for the second time in his career. Sack stated, "We are very excited to welcome Coach Kennedy back to Neumann College.  His passion for Neumann and ice hockey are just two of the many attributes he will bring to lead our women's ice hockey program."

A year ago Kennedy left Neumann, after posting a 22-17-3 record to accept a position as an assistant coach under Michael Barrett at Quinnipiac University. He returns to his alma mater after leading the Quinnipiac Bobcats to a 10-18-6 record, including wins over Division-I powerhouses #9 Yale and #10 University of Connecticut.

"This is the perfect time for me to rejoin the staff at Neumann, I feel that the time spent at Quinnipiac will only enhance the foundation that I put into place during the 2002-2003 and 2004-2005 seasons," said Kennedy.

During his two-year stint as the Knights' head coach, Kennedy led Neumann to back to back ECAC West Championship Tournament appearances. He coached twelve ECAC West Athletes of the Week and 5 All-Conference selections. Under his leadership the women's ice hockey program enjoyed their most successful season when in 2003-04 the team finished 12-10-1.  Kennedy also has the distinction of being the all-time winningest coach in program history.

A 2001 graduate of Neumann, Kennedy earned his bachelors degree in psychology while starting as goaltender for the Knight men's program. He is a native of Skaneateles, New York and a graduate of Skaneateles High School

A member of the Neumann men's ice hockey team during his undergraduate days, Kennedy also served as a two-year team captain and was an assistant coach with the Knights men's team from 2001-2003.

Kennedy resides in Springfield with his wife, Eileen Kennedy. The couple recently married on July 1.
