Neumann hires former Neumann Knight Brie Ward as the assistant coach for the 06-07 women's ice hockey program.

 

Aston, Pa. - Former Neumann Knight Brie Ward joins the Knights' women's ice hockey coaching staff for the 2006-07 season as an assistant coach to Head Coach Matthew Kennedy. Kennedy made the official announcement earlier today.

 

"Coach Ward is very intelligent when it comes to understanding the game" Kennedy stated.  "I believe she will bring great guidance and ability to the team and will be a very effective asset to us this season." Kennedy went on to say that he looks forward to having Ward as an assistant coach for the upcoming season and feels that her experiences on the ice as a Knight will prove favorable.    

 

A graduate of Neumann College's sport management program, Ward was a key member of the Neumann Knights women's ice hockey team and a captain of four years. She played two seasons under Kennedy prior to her graduation in 2004.

 

As a four-year defensive starter for the Knights, Ward brings her defensive-minded knowledge to the program, along with several athletic accomplishments to accent her coaching aptitude.  Ward has been honored with various athletic and academic honors throughout her participation with the Knights, such as: ECAC All- Academic Team (02-03, 03-04), All-ECAC Honorable Mention Team (04) and five-time Neumann College Vice President's List honoree.

 

Ward, Kennedy and the Knights will open their season on November 06, 2006 at home against Plattsburgh State. The first puck of the season is scheduled to drop at 6:00 p.m.
