Owings Mills, MD- The women's lacrosse traveled to Owings Mills, MD to play a make-up game from Spring Break against Villa Julie College. Despite a going up two goals early in the first half the Knights would not be able to contain a fast Mustang team for long. Villa Julie was able to open up the mid-field and expose the back side of the Knights defense and find the back of the net 12 times in the second half. The loss brings Neumann to 4-7 on the season. Sarah Poynter (Dundalk, MD/Patapsco) struck first for the Knights with a pass from junior Gabby D'Ambrosio (Mount Laurel, NJ/Holy Cross.) The Knights came knocking on the Mustang's door just minutes later when Colleen Finnegan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) rolled the crease and slipped a quick shovel-shot past Villa Julie's keeper. Caitlin O'Shea was put to the test as the Knights were outshot 25-8 in the first half but the Springfield, PA native stood strong and tallied nine saves and only allowed six. Emily Kazaba (Claymont, DE/Brandywine) converted a free position shot for the team's final goal of the half. The second period would prove to be a different story for the Knights. The top-ranked Capital Athletic Conference Mustangs went to goal 32 times and converted 12 to points. Neumann would only find the net one time in the half on a free position for junior Rachael DiCicco (South Dennis, NJ/Middle Township) O'Shea finished the day with 19 saves. The Knights look to rebound from the loss for another non-conference match-upagainst SUNY Farmingdale Thursday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. start. |
