ASTON,Pa., -Neumann College opened up the 2007 season at the Swarthmore Kick Classic on Saturday where the Knights faced off against Villa Julie College in the first round of this year's Labor Day weekend event. Despite the efforts of senior captain Casey Geary and Angela Juliano on offense, Neumann was unable to overcome and early 2-goal lead by the Mustangs. However, Knights were able to avoid the shutout when Geary scored a left-footed shot 83 minutes into the game. Outshot 24-11 Neumann Neumann's defense remained strong throughout the game. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Raiburn stopped 12 of VJC's 14 shots on net. "We had opportunities," stated Head Coach Lisa Benvenuto. "We just were unable to find the back of the net. We played well as a team. Brittany Barley played very well for us offensively. She did all she could to set up the plays but we just could get the ball past Casey Brown." Brown had 6 save on the day for Villa Julie. The Knights will continue to participate in the Swarthmore Kick Classic on Sunday. Neumann is scheduled to face Swarthmore at 12:00 p.m. |
