Angela Juliano makes two assist in the Knights 4-2 victory

Knights Take Home the Trophy

Sept. 4, 2005

Box Score

Frederick, MD - The Neumann Knights took on Pennsylvania Athletic Conference foe Cedar Crest College in the final round of the Servedio Tournament, hosted by Hood College. The Knights defeated the Falcons 4-2 to earn the trophy and the programs first tournament championship.

In the championship round Cedar Crest took a one goal advantage early in the game, sliding one past starting goal tender Elizabeth Raiburn. However, Maureen Muntz answered back at the 26:40 mark to even things up before the half. Neumann came out in the second half to score three consecutive goals. The first goal was scored by Shana Mitchell off a Kathleen Lamb throw in. The second came just 20 seconds later as Casey Geary received a pass assist from Angela Juliano. Before the Knights were done, Geary teamed up with Julliano once again, scoring her fifth goal of the weekend. Cedar Crest did manage to score one more goal, this time on Kelsey Toomey who came in at the start of the second half to relieve Raiburn. Both goalies combined for a total of nine saves on the day.

Interviewed after the game Coach Benvenuto stated, "The girls worked well together, they regrouped and did what had to be done. They did well and it has been a great start to the season."  Through Coach Benvenuto's leadership the Neumann soccer program is on the rise. The Knights have started off the 2005-06 season with a 2-0-1 record.
