Caitlin Hanrahan's home run in game two gave Neumann all they needed in the 9-1 win.
Neumann Continues Undefeated 8-0 and 2-0 in PAC

March 17, 2006

Box Score

Neumann softball opened up PAC play with two wins against Cedar Crest College. The Knights won game one, 6-0, and game two, 9-1. Neumann returns to action on Saturday, hosting Eastern University in a double header at 12:00 p.m.

Knight's Pitcher Kelli Ann Meehan held the opposition scoreless for the first six innings of the contest. A base hit in the second inning by Caitlin Hanrahan (Springfield, PA/Springfield) followed by two doubles in the third by Kim Zlupko (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Danielle Hayes ( Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), helped Neumann get ahead 3-0 in game one.

Meehan continued shooting down the Falcons, shutting down Cedar Crest 6, 7, 8 in the fifth and 9, 10, 11 in the sixth. A Lauren Gallagher (Parkesburg, PA/Home School) sixth inning triple set the Knights up for three more runs going up 6-0 before taking the field for the final inning.

In the seventh inning Cedar Crest broke up Meehan's no hitter with two singles, the first by Sarah Campbell and the second by Alyssa Kabet. However, stellar defensive play by the Knights helped to put away the conference foe as Neumann's Traci Reed (Havertown, PA\Haverford) combined with Hayes and Zlupko for the first and last outs of the inning. On the mound Meehan, now 5-0, struck out 8 to earn the win.

The two teams returned to the field shortly after, for the second game of the series. A double by Zlupko in the second inning started things off for the Knights. The Falcons Allison Holland walked Hays only to come face to face with Hanrahan. The freshman catcher hit the ball over the fence for a three run homer which proved to be all the Knights would need to sweep the season series. Freshman Angela Sebasto (Trenton, NJ/McCorristin), who was on the mound for the Knights in game two, gave up five hits and stuck out three.

Pre game Notes: The Neumann Knights and the Cedar Crest Falcons first met in the Spring of 1997. The Knights hosted the Falcons on March 19th of that year. That game started a 7-game series winning streak for the Knights against the PAC conference foe and has led the Knights to a 12-4 series advantage over the Falcons in program history. The two teams last met in Disney, Florida on March 19, 2006. In that match up the Knights defeated the Falcons by a score of 4-2.
