In one of the quickest softball games this season, the #3 Neumann Knights (26-9, 19-4 PAC) hosted the #6 Falcons of Cedar Crest College (17-17, 11-11 PAC) in 9-0 shutout in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on the Bruder Fields in Aston, PA.

Starting pitcher Kelli Ann Meehan (Springfield, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) retired the first five innings with little resistance from the opposition. After three scoreless innings the Knights offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth, hitting three consecutive singles. Danielle Hayes (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) started things off followed by Caitlin Hanrahan (Springfield, PA/Springfield) and PAC Pitcher of the Week Angela Sebasto (Trenton, NJ/McCorristin) whose shot up the middle scored Hayes for a Knights 1-0 lead.

Meehan turned on the pressure in the top of the fifth striking out the side in order. The Knights picked up the bats, as Kristen Lawlor (Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy) picked up lead-off batter Traci Reed (Havertown, PA/Haverford) with a single. Kim Zlupko (Cinnaminson, PA/Cinnaminson) followed with a double in the gap, bringing home Lawlor. Danielle Hayes followed in tradition bringing home Zlupko with an RBI single. With two outs on the board Sebasto came to the plate, ripping an opposite way double, to bring home Hays. Lauren Gallagher (Parkesburg, PA/Home School) continued the streak with an RBI single which brought home Sebasto. Christina Walsh (Downingtown, PA/Bishop Shanahan) came to the plate and reach on a base on balls, followed by pinch hitter Tracie Seagraves (Havertown, PA/Haverford) who fouled off thirteen pitches before reaching first on a walk to load the bases.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Neumann Knight Samantha Duncan (Bear, DE/Glasgow) came into the line up for Traci Reed as a pinch hitter. "Coach just called me up and told me to lay off of the high ones (pitches). I had two balls called on me and had no idea what was about to happen. When the third pitch was right up the middle, my natural senses kick in," said Duncan. And with that, on her first at bat of the day, Duncan hit a shot over the fence for a walk off grand slam home run, the first of her career, ending the game in five innings, (due to an 8-run rule) 9-0.

When starting pitcher Kelli Ann Meehan was asked about the game she stated, "We played together and with high intensity. Everyone backed everyone up. We came into this game with a strict attitude and we were ready to win. I was excited and was determined to get a win. I really feel that if we continue to play like we did today, we will finish very well in the future."
