2006 Tournament MVP Angela Sebasto leads Neumann to the NCAA's
Knights Continue PAC Dominance; Win First-Ever Tournament Title

May 7, 2006

What a year the Neumann Knights softball team has put together. First they put together a 10-game win streak to start the season, then for the third time under Head Coach Bill Saar, they break the school record for most wins in a season. They record the Knights first winning season since 1986 and then advance to the PAC Championship for the first time in program history, and that's not all. Today the Knights swiped the 2006 PAC Tournament Title from reigning champ and tournament host College Misericordia, earning the College's first NCAA automatic berth in school history.

Led by the MVP performance of freshman pitcher Angela Sebasto, who was 3-0 with a 0.37 ERA in the tournament, the Neumann College softball team won the first PAC title in school history with a 2-1 win over College Misericordia. The win also made Head Coach Bill Saar (61-52) the winningest coach in Neumann Knights softball program history.

In the game winner Sebasto allowed five hits and struck out six, to record her 16th win this season. Teammate Kristen Lawlor scored the go-ahead run after Danielle Hayes reached on error ending the sixth inning up 2-1.

"We wanted this. College Misericordia was a tough team but we had more drive and determination. After we tied it up I knew we were going to do what we needed to get the job done! I had so much support behind me, our outfield was incredible. Our whole team worked together and I am just really excited," stated Sebasto.

Neumann tied the score in the bottom of the fourth. Hayes led off with a walk and moved to second on fielder's choice. She came around to score the game tying run on an error Cougars second baseman Lindsay Miller.

College Misericordia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Kirsten Lazorka led off with a single and moved to third when Lauran Mushinski double to left.  Lazorka scored when Kristi Devens laid down a perfect squeeze bunt for the early lead.

Neumann advanced to the finals after defeating second seed Arcadia University 4-3 and College Misericordia 3-2 in the first of the double elimination PAC event on Saturday, May 6. College Misericordia defeated second seed Arcadia University 4-3 in the first of the three-game day. The Cougars forced a game seven when they shut out the Knights for the first time this season 5-0 in game six.

"This is great for the women and the College. What more can we say, I am extremely happy and proud," stated Head Coach Bill Saar.

Neumann will await the NCAA Division III pairing set to be released on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
