Softball Celebrates Success of the Season

May 23, 2008

Aston,. Pa. -- The Neumann College softball team capped its season Monday night by recognizing various student-athletes and celebrating another successful season at its 4th annual awards banquet.

Among the various athletic and academic honors distributed four team awards were announced - MVP (Anglea Sebasto/Jen Goslin), St. Francis and Clare (Audrie Porter), Coach's Award (Stephanie Marrone) and Most Improved Player (Sheila Munson).

Prior to the evening meal the Neumann Knights took a moment to remember Assistant Coach Jim Christy, who past away after preparing the team to take the 2008 PAC Championship in the early part of the season.

Head Coach Bill Saar and Assistant Coach Len Schuler then honored the team for their accomplishments which included becoming the first team in Neumann history to record an NCAA Tournament victory.

First basemen Jen Goslin was honored for being the first Neumann Knight named an ESPN Magazine Academic All-District II First Team selection.

Goslin was also recognized as a 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region First Team selection along with teammates Angela Sebasto and catcher Caitlin Hanrahan who were honored on the second and third teams respectively.

As the night went on congratulations and good-byes were sent out to seniors Audrie Porter, Lauren Gallagher, Samantha Duncan and Christina Walsh whose careers with the Knights included two different PAC Championships and two NCAA Tournament experiences.

In return the four seniors thanked Head Coach Bill Saar, Assistant Coach Len Schuler, their wives, the Christy family, parents, fans and the administration for believing in them and giving them so much support. As graduating senior Audrie Porter stated, "Without all of you, none of this would have ever been able to be accomplished. We thank all of you for all you have done for all of us over the last few years."
