Zlupko is Neumann's first student-athlete to be honored in the first year of the program's existence

Kim Zlupko Named to Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team

July 31, 2006

Aston, Pa. - Junior shortstop Kim Zlupko was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team announced Sunday, June 25.  Zlupko is Neumann's first student-athlete to be honored in the first year of the program's existence.  The team was voted on by the sports information offices of the area schools.

"Kim has been an integral part of our team for the last three seasons," stated Head Coach Bill Saar. "She continues to be a leader both on and off the field. The potential that Kim displays and the effort that she puts into everything that she does lead her to be successful in the classroom and on the field. I don't know of a more deserving player for this honor."

Zlupko, who compiled a 3.75 cumulative grade point average as a nursing major, currently holds the record for most hits (133) and runs scored (85) in a career. She led the Knights' 2006 PAC Championship team in both categories this past season. In the field Zlupko boasted a .958 fielding percentage and led the Knights with 76 assists this season.

"Coach Saar is always stressing how important our education is. In the classroom, the professors are easy to approach if you have a question and they are usually available if you need to get a hold of them. I came to Neumann for its nursing program; softball is an extra benefit, so I put my schooling first and I am glad am able to represent Neumann in this way," stated Zlupko.

A native of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Zlupko is a 2005 and 2006 All-PAC First Team selection and two-time PAC Player of the Week.  Following the 2006 season she was honored with the 2006 All-PAC Sportsmanship Award. She is a Neumann College Presidential Scholarship Award Winner and three-time All-PAC Academic award winner.
