ASTON, Pa.  - The Neumann women's tennis team lost 7-2 to the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy College in PAC play early this morning. Both Kayla Chamberlain and Courtney Hartel picked up wins in singles for the Knights (3-4, 2-1), but it wasn't enough to stop Gwynedd Mercy (3-4, 2-1) from taking home the win.

Despite an early morning rain which caused the Knights' third PAC match to be pushed back an hour, Neumann fought hard and managed to take two of nine from the Griffins.

The Knights were down 3-0 after losing at 1st, 2nd and 3rd doubles. Gwynedd's Davida Phillips and Alana Rumpel defeated Neumann's Allison Trout and Rachel Coladonato, 8-3 at No. 1. Ashley Bowie and Chelsea Donde defeated Michelle Steward and Kayla Chamberlain 8-1 at No. 2 and Heather Morgan and Heather Kozin were able to complete a doubles sweep by defeating Lindsey Ravior and Courtney Hartel 8-4.

Neumann attempted to make a come back but found themselves down 6-0 going into the final three singles matches which were decide by pro-set. At fourth singles Donde defeated Lindsey Ravior in a well fought match, 9-7. Neumann's Kayla Chamberlain earned the Knights their 1st point of the morning winning 8-5 at 5th singles and team captain Courtney Hartel closed out the day at 6th singles with an 8-3 win over Quinteria Moore.

"This is a tough loss," stated Head Coach Christian Gosseaux. "We got swept at doubles and that really hurt us. We hope to be able to rebound on Wednesday against Eastern."

Neumann will travel to Eastern on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. PAC match start.
