2006 Season Statistics

 

The Neumann Knights' women's tennis team clinched their first team berth in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference tournament, ending the regular season with an 8-3 conference record. The Knights 2006 season will mark the best regular season finish in program history with a 9-7 overall record and their highest seeding (4th) in the tournament since its inception in 1992.

 

The entire Knights team will travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania on Friday, October 20, 2006 and Sunday, October 22, 2006 to face the other five qualifying teams, along with the individual wildcard entries, for the PAC Championship title.

 

The Knights started of the season slowly, losing their first three matches against College Misercordia (7-2) Cabrini College (9-0) and non conference opponent King's College (9-0). However, they came through when it mattered most, defeating 7 of their 8 remaining PAC opponents including fifth and sixth seeds Marywood University and Cedar Crest College.

 

Neumann Knights Sarah Tomlinson and Ashley Miller will face off at 1st doubles while Courtney Hartel and Kayla Chamberlain will take to the court at 2nd doubles. Shamira Cannon and Melinda Howell will round out Neumann's doubles participants at 3rd doubles.

 

In singles action Tomlinson and Miller will compete at #1 and #2 respectively. Sophomore Shamira Cannon will serve at #3 with Allison Trout earning a spot at #4. Melinda Howell worked her way through a highly competitive season to earn a spot at #5 and Courtney Hartel finished with the best record of any Knight going 9-4 overall and 9-2 in the PAC.   

 

The tournament opens on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the West End Racquet Club in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
