ASTON, PA. - - In their first home matchup of the season, the Neumann College Women's Volleyball team defeated the Defenders of Baptist Bible College, 3-1. The Knights were hungry to get back on the court after going 2-2 in the Haverford Tournament over the weekend, taking 3rd place. After dropping the first match 30-26, the Knights rallied in front of a loud supporting crowd, to take the final three games and improve their season record to 3-2. Game one went back and forth for much of the match, with the score tied at 8 after 16 points. Neumann enjoyed a 21-20 lead, before Baptist Bible came on strong to secure a 30-26 win. Hoping to even the match, Neumann jumped out to a 10-8 lead in the second game. Strong play helped them increase their lead to 20-15 and gave them a momentum they seemed to use the rest of the night. In scoring 10 of the next 15 points, Neumann wrapped up a 30-20 victory to even the match at 1 game apiece. In a pivotal game 3, Neumann fell behind early 4-1, but bounced back immediately, scoring 12 of the next 16 points to open up a 13-9 lead that they would not relinquish. Thanks in large part to a 13-5 kills advantage in the game, Neumann was able to obtain a 30-23 victory. Game 4 saw Baptist Bible jump out early 7-2, and had most of the fans thinking the match was going to go the full five games. Neumann had other ideas however, as they scored 9 of the next 11 points to take a 12-10 lead. From there, the offensive firepower of the Knights took over, and Neumann coasted to a 30-20 game win, and more importantly a 3-1 match win. The Knights were lead offensively by Julia Tarloski, who had 17 kills, 29 total attempts and only 3 errors (.483%) and Kristen Verone who added 47 assists. Defensively, Meghan Wilson, the team's defensive specialist, had 20 digs while Rachael Sokolovich added 15 digs to stymie the Defender attack. The Knights will have the rest of the week off before traveling to Swarthmore College on Saturday at 11:00 am in a triple match vs. host Swarthmore and Marymount College. |
