Aston, Pa. - Neumann finished its weekend 2-0 and extended its winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 win over Swarthmore and a 3-1 win over Marymount Saturday in the first of three tri-matches this season. In game one, against Swarthmore, Neumann fell short 30-26 but rebounded to win the next three matches 30-17, 30-24, and 30-28. Rachael Sokolovich hit for 25 kills on 49 attempts for a .370 hitting percentage, second only to freshman Ashley Mathis who hit for 15 kills on 28 attempts for a .430 hitting percentage. Megan Wilson recorded 22 digs in the win while newcomer Stephanie Angelucci added 43 assist. Against Marymount Neumann went up 2-0 winning game one in a nail bitter, 31-29, and the second game 30-20. Victory seemed imminent for Neumann (5-2), but the Saints (1-3) charged back to take game three 30-20. Neumann bounced back in the fourth set winning the game 30-21. Kirsten Verone delivered two service aces and 40 assists in the win while Lindsay Buckland and Emilee Gruse teamed up for 3-block assists each. Neumann will return to action on Monday at Immaculata in its PAC opener at 7 p.m. |
