ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Neumann volleyball team dropped the final two matches of the Blue Jay Classic, hosted by Elizabethtown College, losing to Widener and Swarthmore to drop to 10-8 in the middle of the season. The Knights fell 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-12) to Widener and then 3-2 to Swarthmore (30-20, 28-30, 30-24, 19-30, 15-8) to close out the tournament 1-3. Despite the losses, the Knights saw impressive performances from Rachael Sokolovich (Media, Pa. /Ridley), Emilee Gruse (Lafayette, In. /St. Mark's) and Kristen Verone (Folsom, Pa. /Cardinal O'Hara). Verone recorded a double, double in both matches. The junior setter tallied 24 assists and 16 digs against Widener and 53 assists and 22 digs against Swarthmore. Sokolovich and Gruse recorded a total of 22 kills each in the two matches. The Knights will be back in action on Monday at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. The first serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. |
