Volleyball Finishes Fourth at Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic Tournament

The Neumann College volleyball team defeated Moravian College 3-1 and Ursinus College 3-0 and lost to University of Scranton 3-1 and Wesleyan University 3-0 in route to a fourth place finish at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic Tournament, hosted by Elizabethtown College. Sophomore Julie Tarloski was named to the All-Tournament team following the two-day event. The Knights are now 9-9 on the season.

In the first match, Neumann handed Moravian its first loss of the tournament with an impressive 3-1 victory (30-22, 32-30, 19-30, 30-21). Tarlowski led the attack with 15 kills. Sarah Miller recorded 2 block solos, 2 block assist and 8 kills in 23 attempts for a .347 attack percentage. Rachael Sokolovich added 13 kills and 29 digs. Kristen Gregg-Verone recorded 48 set assists, while Allison Hazewski tallied a carrer high 30 digs.

In the second match of the event, the Knights lost to tournament champion University of Scranton 3-1 (30-22, 30-23, 27-30, 30-14). Tarlowski led the team in kills once again with 10. Gregg-Verone recorded five service aces, while Meghan Wilson had 10 digs.

The Knights recorded their second win of the tournament over Ursinus College in game three of the Blue Jay Classic 3-0 (30-15, 30-20, 30-25). This is the Knights second win of the season over the Bears. Neumann defeated UC 3-0 at the Lebanon Valley Tournament last weekend. Sokolovich and Tarlowski hit down 12 kills each while Jenna Halpin add 10 kills. Emilee Gruse stopped three attempts, recording 3 block solos and Christina Walsh had 12 digs in the shut out.

In the final game of the weekend the Knights were challenged by Wesleyan University falling in four games 30-26, 30-27, 30-22. Sokolovich led the Knights with 10 kills followed by Grouse with 7.

The Knights will return to action on Tuesday when they will host Cedar Crest College in their first home match of the 2006 season.
