ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann Knights slid by PAC opponent Alvernia College 30-27, 30-24 and 30-21 in a Homecoming event at the Bruder Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Knights opened today's match up with a 30-27 win in game one however; the Knights found themselves battling for every point. Though Neumann held the lead for the majority of play the Knights did find themselves down 23-22 before regaining the lead 26-25 and taking game one 30-27. Neumann and Alvernia played even in the opening minutes of game two but not for long as Neumann quickly jumped out to a 15-9 lead. Alvernia caught the Knights and took a 19-18 lead over its hosts but Neumann reclaimed the lead after Alyssa Brigg recorded two consecutive service aces which sparked the Knights to a 30-24 victory in game two. Game three saw the Crusaders take a 4-0 lead over the Knights and ten ties between the two teams before Neumann used a eight-point run to take a 27-19 lead in the final minutes of the game. Alvernia managed to put two more points on the board but it was not enough as the Knights put away game, 30-27. The Knights were led by Julia Tarloski (Malvern, Pa. /Bishop Shanahan) with 14 kills and two block solos, Ashley Mathis (Norristown, Pa. /Norristown) with 12 kills, 5 digs, and one block assist and Rachael Sokolovich (Media, Pa. /Ridley) with 10 kills, 9 digs and 3 block assists. The Knights will be back in action on Monday at home against Misericordia University. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. |
