Radnor, Pa. - The Neumann Knights' volleyball team fell to the Eastern University Eagles in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference volleyball championship. In front of a sell out crowd the Knights were looking to break Eastern's run of nine consecutive PAC championships. Up for the challenge the Knights started the game battling for every point. Led by sophomore middle hitter Julia Tarloski the Knights attempted to keep pace early in the first game. However, the Eagles' defense was able to prevent the Knights from establishing any momentum and the Knights fell 30-15 in game one. Tarloski ended the match with 8 kills in 27 attempts for a .148 average. In the second game the Eastern was able to jump on the Knights early. They took command of the second game and never looked back despite the efforts of Alyssa Brigg and Kristen Gregg-Verone. Brigg and Greg-Verone led the team with 9 and 7 digs respectively while Eastern won the second game 30-9. The Knights looked to re-group in the third game and were able to build more of an attack. However, Eastern's defensive effort denied the Knights each time they looked to score as Eastern completed the sweep with a 30-18 victory. Emilee Gruse was a strong presence throughout the match and finished with 6 kills on 16 attempts for .125 average. Despite the tough loss the Knights enjoyed a fantastic season behind coach Deana Jespersen's leadership. The Knights finish the season 21-13. The team will wait to hear if they receive a post-season invitation. |
