Volleyball Announces 2007 Team

Aug. 31, 2007

ASTON, Pa., - Neumann College Head Volleyball Coach Deana Jespersen has announced the 2007 Neumann Knights Volleyball team. This year's team will include the 2006 PAC Rookie of the Year, two All-PAC First Team selections, two All-PAC Honorable Mention selections and the addition of five new players for 2007.

Freshman outside hitters Ashley Mathis, from Norristown, Pennsylvania, and Lauren Sheehan from Port Carbon, Pennsylvania will be joined by Stephanie Angelucci, a setter from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, Caitlin Iacobacci, a middle hitter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cathleen Hazewski , a defensive specialist from Middletown, Delaware.

The five will help to replace Sarah Miller, Kelly Saville and 2006 PAC Sportsmanship honoree Jenna Halpin, who graduated in May.

Returning to Neumann College's Bruder Courts this season will be 2006 All-PAC selection Rachael Sokolovich who was named 2007 team tri-captain by her peers. She will be joined in the leadership role by senior Alyssa Brigg and fellow junior Meghan Wilson. Wilson will lead the team from the libero position this season.

Kristen Verone will return for her third season with the Knights. The junior setter from Folsom, Pennsylvania will look to break the Knights' career assists record currently held by Neumann alumna Devon Pankowski (2180). Verone currently sits in second with 2115.

Melissa Haines, Rachele Dimichele and Chrystina Amelotti will lead the Knights defense while All-PAC selections Julia Tarloski and Emilee Gruse will power Neumann's attack along with sophomore right side hitter Lindsay Buckland.

Neumann will open up the 2007 season at the Haverford College Invitational over Labor Day Weekend and will host Baptist Bible College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4.
