ASTON, PA - Tonight Neumann (8-5, 2-0 PAC) welcomes the College of Notre Dame (1-7, 0-1 PAC) to the Bruder Gymnasium for their first ever match up as PAC opponents. Last Saturday the Knights split on the second day of the Lebanon Valley Tournament. In the opener Neumann fell to Franklin & Marshall in five games. Neumann was in control early, winning Games 1 and 2, 30-28, 30-28. Franklin and Marshall evened the match up by winning the next two games, 30-27 and 30-25. The Diplomats went on to win the decisive Game 5, 15-13. Ashley Mathis led the Knights with 19 kills. Emilee Gruse (11) and Julia Tarloski (11) also reached double digits in kills. Kristen Verone led the Knights with 50 of 56 assists. Defensively, Meghan Wilson led the Blue and Gold with 16 digs. In the nightcap Neumann downed Ursinus in 3-games. Neumann took games 1 and 2 by a score of 30-22 and finished of the final match 30-17. The Knights were led offensively by Ashley Mathis with 12 kills and defensively by Meghan Wilson with 13 digs. Freshman Stephanie Angelucci controlled play setting up for 35 assist in the 3-0 win. Last Friday Neumann fell to nationally ranked Haverford College and Penn State Altoona in Annville, Pa. Neumann faced No. 12 Haverford College for the second time this season but showed growth in its most recent loss to the Fords. After losing Game 1, 30-17, Neumann battled its opponent to a 30-27 final in game 2 and a 30-22 final in game 3. The Knights then suffered a 3-0 loss to Penn-State Altoona later that evening, 30-12, 30-25 and 31-29. On Tuesday the College of Notre Dame broke an eight-game losing streak with 3-0 win over PAC opponent Rosemont College. This is the first time that the Knights and the Gators will meet as conference opponents. The two teams have met four times prior to tonight's conference match. The last meeting between the two teams was on October 13, 2003 at home. The College of Notre Dame won that match up by a score of 3-1. The College of Notre Dame holds the all-time series lead over the Knights, 3-1. Saturday Neumann will travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. for a 2:30 p.m. serve. |
